LAKE LANIER ISLANDS - SnowWorld, Lake Lanier Islands new wintertime attraction, is closing earlier than planned as the South Hall resort moves ahead with plans for a new attraction at its most popular venue - LanierWorld.
The boardwalk, beach and waterpark entertainment district may soon lay claim to a four-lane waterslide that begins at the top of a hill, flies out over the boardwalk and beach, and splashes down in the waters of Lake Lanier. But, to prepare for the construction of the lakeside resort's first new waterslide in nearly two decades, Lanier Islands is cutting short SnowWorld's season.
SnowWorld, which opened last November, was originally supposed to close March 15 but the closing date has now been moved up to January 25. Islands officials say, however, plans call for SnowWorld to return later this year.
