GHCC: Area logistics service providers thrive on global stage

GAINESVILLE - The Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Georgia Center of Innovation for Logistics, has released a new study of the growing Logistics Services Industry for the Gainesville-Hall County MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area). The report underscores the direct impact of nearly 2,000 jobs supported by 65 Hall County transportation service providers.<br /> <br /> "Gainesville-Hall County has developed a deep talent pool in freight brokerage, 3PL, cold-chain logistics and transportation services," reports Tim Evans, Vice President of Economic Development for the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce. "Several of the firms noted in the Chamber's study have expanded in recent years, including Lanier Cold Storage, XPO Logistics, Adams Transport, Tatsumi Intermodal, GTOLogistics, Eskimo, Tribe Transportation and Hollis Transport.<br /> <br /> Evans noted, "Gainesville-Hall County is known as a production center, but our logistics service providers have built a reputation of moving inventory and products very efficiently." In August 2014, Inbound Logistics named Gainesville-Hall County-based Syfan Logistics to its "Top 100 3PL list." <br /> <br /> Logistics service providers in Hall County have a strong concentration of logistic service consumers in the the region's manufacturing and retail sectors. And, Georgia's importance in trade routes and the international transportation network allows Hall County logistics service providers to compete on a global scale. <br /> <br /> Mugele of America is one such firm operating in Gainesville-Hall County with roots in Germany and a global footprint. <br /> <br /> Werner Sippl, Managing Director of Mugele recalls, "Twenty years ago, we built Mugele of America in Gainesville-Hall County to connect our manufacturing customers with their global supply chain. Since then, we've been able to grow our customer base and expand our value-added services to the customer such that we have grown four-fold in employment in recent years. Beyond that, the business relationships developed in Georgia have led to other opportunities for the company that will grow the bottom line."<br /> <br /> "Georgia is central to logistics and supply chain strategies as the hub of the Southeast and gateway to North America," said Sandy Lake, Interim Director for the Center of Innovation for Logistics. "Long term infrastructure investments in ourairports, road, rail and ocean terminals connect Georgia's logistics ecosystem to key trade routes, improve accessibility and lowers costs for Georgia businesses." <br /> <br /> Many of Hall County's logistics service providers will participate in key industry events. The Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce will host its Annual Transportation Forum on Thursday, March 12 at the University of North Georgia's Continuing Education facility-Gainesville Campus, followed by the 7th Annual Georgia Logistics Summit at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta March 31-April 1.
