Girls basketball: Chestatee drops 8-AAAA opener to Stephens Co.

TOCCOA -- The Chestatee girls two-game win streak came to an end with a tough 42-38 loss to Stephens County Friday night in both teams' Region 8-AAAA opener.<br />
<br />
The Lady War Eagles (9-7, 0-1 Region 8-AAAA) just could not get much offense going, failing to score more than 11 points in any quarter.<br />
<br />
The game was tied 7-7 after the first quarter and Stephens County (8-8, 1-0) took a 20-17 halftime lead. Chestatee cut the lead to 30-28 heading into the fourth quarter but could not complete the comeback.<br />
<br />
Tyler Bennett led Chestatee with 18 points. Kayla Watson added nine points for the Lady War Eagles.<br />
<br />
Chestatee next will travel to Lumpkin County on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
