Boys basketball: Knights hold off Hayesville (N.C.) in Ga.-N.C. challenge

GAINESVILLE -- Johnson used a 21-6 second quarter to blow open a close game and then held on for 59-49 win over Hayesville (N.C.) Saturday afternoon in the Georgia-North Carolina Challenge at the Lakeview Academy gym.<br />

The Knights (14-0) led just 11-9 after the first quarter but took a 32-15 lead into halftime after the second quarter explosion. Hayesville cut into the Johnson lead with an 18-12 run to trail 44-33 going into the fourth quarter.<br />
<br />
The Knights maintained a double-digit lead most of the fourth quarter to preserve the victory.<br />
<br />
Roderick English led Johnson with 20 points. Ty Cockfield added 16 and Mitchell Dunham 11 points for the Knights.<br />
<br />
Zach Cottrell paced Hayesville with 21 points. Grant Aracibia added 13 points for the Yellow Jackets (7-4).
