NICHOLSON - Three people were treated for hypothermia when their vehicle plunged into a pond in the early morning hours of New Year's Day.

The accident happened around 2 a.m. Thursday on Highway 15 near Cedar Drive in Nicholson. The Georgia State Patrol said the driver lost control of the vehicle trying to negotiate a curve, plunged down an embankment and into a pond.

Jackson County emergency crews say the three occupants - including a small child - were out of the vehicle when they arrived on the scene. Other than being extremely cold, the three were uninjured.

The names of those involved were not released.
