PEACHTREE CITY - The National Weather Service says strong storms are possible this weekend across north and central Georgia.

Forecasters say rain will become widespread across the affected areas Friday night and "strong storms are most likely Saturday night into Sunday afternoon." These storms could also produce damaging winds and tornadoes along with 1-3 inches of rain.

However, the weather service adds "there is still some uncertainty with (the) strength and the timing of this system."

If the forecast proves accurate, it will be the third time since just before Christmas that most of north Georgia and the rest of the state have received a soaking rain.

By the way, Gainesville finished 2014 with a 6.94-inch rainfall deficit, according to data recorded at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport. Rainfall for the year amounted to 46.08 inches.
