JEFFERSON -- The Jefferson girls softball team won the battle but lost the war Tuesday on Senior Night.
The Lady Dragons knocked off East Jackson 2-1 but needed a win by five runs or more to advance to the Region 8-AAA tournament.
Despite the win, Jefferson finished 5-8 in region play and failed to advance by virtue of tiebreakers.
Against East Jackson, Jefferson got the game-winning hit from Meagan Faulkner in the bottom of the seventh scoring Caitlin Cantrell.
Olivia Husted got the win recording 12 strike outs and scattering four hits.
The Lady Eagles, however, turned in a triple-play in the sixth inning. With Erin Jackson on second and Olivia Husted on first, Arynn Baker hit a hard line-drive to Ashlie Wuertly at second. Wuertly's momentum carried her to second base, where she doubled off Jackson. She threw to first, tripling off Husted.
