Hall EMA schedules storm spotter class

GAINESVILLE - The Hall County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is hosting a storm spotter class October 16 from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m.<br /> <br /> It will be held at the North Hall Community Center on Nopone Road. <br /> <br /> Anyone can participate but there will be limited seating space.<br /> <br /> The course will be taught by National Weather Service representatives and will cover procedures for spotting, safety considerations, and an overview of the weather service program and its history.<br /> <br /> Student Objectives:<br /> <br /> &#61608; Define why Storm Spotters are needed<br /> <br /> &#61608; Know the limitations of National Weather Service [NWS] radars<br /> <br /> &#61608; Know the basic information that is needed to report to the NWS<br /> <br /> &#61608; How to get information ahead of severe weather to prepare yourself<br /> <br /> &#61608; Identify different hazards associated with thunderstorms - lightning, flooding, hail, winds and tornadoes<br /> <br /> &#61608; Learn how thunderstorms develop<br /> <br /> &#61608; Learn how tornadoes develop<br /> <br /> &#61608; Identify parts of a thunderstorm which indicate rotation and/or a possible tornado<br /> <br /> &#61608; Identify Supercell thunderstorms<br /> <br /> If you would like to attend the class, contact Hall County EMA Director David Kimbrell so he will know approximately how much material will be needed. <br /> <br /> [email protected]
