Sophomores lead the Lions and Lady Lions at Greensboro Invitational

GREENSBORO, S.C. -- The Piedmont College Cross Country Programs resumed action Saturday after a week off with impressive performances at the Greensboro Invitational. Both the Lions and Lady Lions finished as the top program in the Division III competition and had the top individual performer in that category.<br />

Leading the charge for the men was sophomore Cody Parker who finished in the top ten with a 27:50 followed by Bryce Thorson who made the top 20 running the 8k course in 29:23. The men's team broke the school record for the fastest team average in Piedmont history.<br />
<br />
Esteban Salazar was the third finisher for the Lions just thirty seconds behind Thorson with a 29:51. Cory McClung ran the course in 30:31 with Alec Jameson one minute behind at 31:31. Rily Passini set a new personal best with a time of 34:30.<br />
<br />
For the women, it was sophomore Carrie Ruis who won the 5k overall with a time of 21:46 while fellow sophomore Megan Lawhead also finished in the top ten in 22:07. Rachel Tolliver & Isabella Brown paced one another finished within thirty seconds of one another in 22:50 and 23:15 respectively.<br />

Tiffany Murillo finished in 27:51 while Andrea Bell crossed the line in 30:25 with the team averaging a 23:34.<br />
<br />
Twelve of the 13 runners competing set new season bests while seven personal bests were set during the event. PC faced USA South competition in the event and the women finished 51 points ahead of the closest conference foe while the men were 97 points ahead of the next USA South opponent.<br />
<br />
The teams will be back in action this Saturday at the Maryville Invitational in Maryville, TN. The women will race at 9 a.m. while the men will compete at 10 a.m.
