Cross country: GHS boys, Johnson girls win Main Street News meet

JEFFERSON -- Hall County runners had a strong showing Tuesday at the 12th Annual Main Street News Cross Country Invitational.<br /> <br /> The Gainesville boys and Johnson girls came away with team titles while the Red Elephants' Juan Ortega and Chestatee's Lindsey Grater won the individual races.<br /> <br /> Grater, coming off a win at the Saucony Invitational last Saturday, finished the Crow's Lake course in a time of 22:05 to win the girls event. Johnson's Evelin Avitia finished second in the girls race. Chestatee's Merrie Barnett and Abbie Cliche placed sixth and eighth, respectively, to help the Lady War Eagles to secure second place in the team competition. Athens Christian finished third in the girls' meet.<br /> <br /> In the boys' meet, Chestatee finished second behind the strong finish of Jack Carnes, who took third individually. Logan Brock was sixth and Ivan Martin seventh for the War Eagles. Host Jefferson placed third overall.<br /> <br /> Lewis Brooks of Lakeview Academy finished second.<br />
