Week 4 includes three big broadcast contests on Jacobs Media

The resurgence of West Hall football has proven an intriguing story indeed. And this week the Spartans will learn a lot about themselves in their toughest test to date of the 2014 campaign.

West Hall's trek to face North Oconee on Friday will play out live over the airwaves of Jacobs Media as one of three broadcast games on another big Friday night of prep action.

Key contests will play out throughout northeast Georgia in Week 4, including the start of region play in 8-AAAA, as White County (2-1) travels to Buford (3-0) -- while Region 8-AA also sees a showdown between Rabun County (2-2) and Riverside Military (1-1) in Tiger. Region 7-AAAAAA also commences league play, including a battle between North Gwinnett (2-1) and Collins Hill (2-1).

Regions 7-AAA and 8-AAA have yet to start region battles, but the two leagues have had plenty of crossover battles, and yet another will take place on Friday, as East Hall plays host to Jackson County in Rabbittown in a game broadcast live on WDUN 102.9 FM.

The Vikings (1-1) have had a week off to get ready for their last game before beginning 7-AAA play and will be looking for yet another test. East Hall opened with a stirring comeback over Wesleyan and held a brief lead before falling to an undefeated Pickens in Week 2.

The Panthers, meanwhile, must feel like a breakthrough is coming soon. Jackson County is 0-3 -- with all three losses coming by a combined 27 points (9 points difference per game).

Panthers quarterback Jacob Lewis has found plenty of able targets for Jackson County's spread attack, while Vikings quarterback Devin Watson has proven equally dangerous. It should be an interesting match-up come Friday.

Elsewhere, Gainesville will look to keep its Region 8-AAAAA ride rolling when the Red Elephants (1-1, 1-0 Region 8-AAAAA) travel to face Apalachee (0-3, 0-2) in a game broadcast live on 1240 AM.

Gainesville bounced back from an opening week loss to Grayson with an emphatic defeat of Winder-Barrow last week, and the Red Elephants will want to keep pace with Lanier (3-0, 2-0) after the Longhorns pushed past Flowery Branch (1-1, 0-1) last week. The Falcons, meanwhile, will look to rebound against Heritage, Conyers (0-3, 0-2) in a crucial contest at The Branch.

And then there's that game in Bogart.

West Hall (3-0) may be taking on a winless North Oconee (0-2). But make no mistake, the Titans have plenty going for them.

Consider that North Oconee's losses came against Class AA No. 1 GAC (28-10) and Class AAAAA No. 6 Coffee (27-14 -- Coffee's only loss so far was 24-21 to Class AAAAA No. 2 Ware County).

Also consider that the Titans feature running back Kawon Bryant -- the 2013 Class AAA offensive player of the year, who rushed for 2,559 yards as a junior. The 5-foot-8, 185-pound Bryant has 50 carries for 217 yards and one touchdown so far this season.

West Hall's defense has not allowed a touchdown of any kind so far this season. Something's got to give.

The Spartans' own rushing attack has proven impressive, averaging 253 yards per game. Kwon Williams leads the way with 225 yards, while Tyrese Osborne and Jay Crawford (93 yards and 2 TDs in last week's win over North Hall) have also played big.

WDUN AM 550 will be there for the game, and we can't wait to see how it -- and all of Week 4 -- will play out.

Make sure you check our Friday Game Night page throughout the week for features and video leading up to another big weekend. This week's "5 things" column is already up, and we have features coming on Lanier's surge, East Hall and Jackson County and West Hall huge showdown in Bogart.

WEEK 4 SCHEDULE, Sept. 19
Athens Academy at Commerce
Cedar Shoals at Lanier
Collins Hill at North Gwinnett
East Jackson at Franklin County
Fannin County at Union County
Gainesville at Apalachee -- Radio: 1240 AM
Hebron Christian at Towns County
Heritage, Conyers at Flowery Branch
Jackson County at East Hall -- Radio: 102.9 FM
Loganville at Winder-Barrow
Lumpkin County at Our Lady of Mercy
Mill Creek at Duluth
North Cobb Christian at Banks County
North Forsyth at South Forsyth
North Hall at Carrollton
Pickens at Johnson
Riverside Military at Rabun County
West Forsyth at Habersham Central
West Hall at North Oconee -- Radio: AM 550
White County at Buford -- Radio: www.wrwh.com
