NEW YORK (AP) -- The stock market is down slightly in early trading after its first weekly loss since early August.<br />

The Standard & Poor's 500 index eased two points, or 0.1 percent, to 1,983 shortly after U.S. markets opened Monday. The S&P 500 fell 1.1 percent last week, snapping five straight weeks of gains.<br />
<br />
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 15 points, or 0.1 percent, to 16,972. The Nasdaq edged down 11 points, or 0.3 percent, to 4,556.<br />
<br />
The yield on the 10-year Treasury note stood at 2.59 percent. That was down slightly from its highest level in two months late Friday, 2.61 percent.
