ATLANTA (AP) -- Ocilla Rep. Jay Roberts and Dalton Sen. Charlie Bethel will be serving as co-chairs of a new legislative committee to study high school athletics.
Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and House Speaker David Ralston recently announced the appointments. The joint committee was created under Senate Bill 288 and charged with reviewing the operations of Georgia's high school athletic associations.
Lawmakers say the committee will periodically evaluate the operations of the state's high school athletic associations to ensure fair and equal standards, a high level of academic achievement and sportsmanship.
Any recommendations will be submitted before Jan. 1 of each year to the General Assembly.
