DAHLONEGA -- Lumpkin County churned out 281 yards rushing and held off Johnson 14-3 Friday night for its first win of the season, and the first win for new coach Ty Maxwell.
Senior Bradley Womack led the charge for the Indians (1-2) with 149 yards and one touchdown. Sophomore quarterback Zach Matthews added 90 yards and a score.
Lumpkin County took the early 7-0 lead on a 79-yard TD run by Womack and it stayed that way until the third quarter. Matthews scampered 54 yards to set up his own 1-yard score moments later to give the Indians a 14-0 lead.
Johnson's only points came on a 37-yard field goal by Isaac Henry in the third quarter. The Knights (0-4) had a chance to draw closer but the Indians' Cal Thrailkill intercepted a pass inside the 10-yard line to kill the drive.
The Knights were led on the ground by Kavin Hopkins and Hunter Johnson, who each had 57 yards rushing.
