Troopers expect DUI charge in Lumpkin County crash

DAHLONEGA - The Georgia State Patrol expected to file a DUI charge against one of the drivers in a head-on traffic accident on Long Branch Road in Lumpkin Thursday night.<br /> <br /> The wreck happened just south of Azalea Ridge around 8:00 p.m.<br /> <br /> According to GSP Sgt. Curtis W. Bradshaw, Jr., Alan Vincent Malm, 75, of Dahlonega, was headed north on Long Branch. Malm was trying to negotiate a curve when his Buick LeSabre crossed the center line and hit a Volkswagen Jetta.<br /> <br /> According to Bradshaw, the Jetta was carrying three people, the driver, Draven Tyler Hunter, 19, and passengers, Chelsea Breanna Randall, 20, and Dillon Austin Chase Pitts, 21. Hunter and Randall are from Demorest, and Pitts is from Mount Airy.<br /> <br /> Hunter was flown to Atlanta Medical Center, Randall and Pitts were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Bradshaw described all of their injuries as non-life threatening.<br /> <br /> Malm also suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the medical center in Gainesville.<br /> <br /> Bradshaw said Malm will be charged with failure to maintain lane, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, DUI, two counts of felony serious injury by vehicle and seatbelt violation.<br /> <br /> No one was wearing a seatbelt in either vehicle except Randall, according to Bradshaw, but no one was ejected from the cars during the collision.
