GAINESVILLE - The dental exam rooms at Good News Clinics in Gainesville have been named in honor of Dr. Ed Burnette, a retired dentist and longtime volunteer at the clinics. A reception in his honor was held Thursday night.

Dr. Burnette was the founder of the Green Warren Dental Clinic in 1997 and recruited 40 dentists to serve as volunteers.

Funding for the opening of the dental clinic was made possible by Anne Warren Thomas, who donated money to buy the equipment for the clinic. The dental clinic was named the Green Warren Dental Clinic in honor of Mrs. Thomas' father, a dentist in Atlanta.

Dr. Burnette served as the volunteer Dental Director for nearly 18 years until he retired in January. He was also honored with a commendation signed by Governor Deal and a proclamation from the Hall County Board of Commissioners recognizing his service.

Under Dr. Burnette's leadership, the dental clinic has grown to become the largest free dental clinic in the state.

During the 2013 fiscal year, the clinic provided 7,478 patient visits and dentists gave 1,395 volunteer hours to treat patients with an estimated value of $1.3 million. Since its founding, the Green Warren Dental Clinic has provided more than $10 million in services to over 18,000 uninsured, low-income residents of Hall County.
