Hall County student charged with terroristic threats

GAINESVILLE - An 18-year-old student at Lanier Career Academy (LCA) is charged with terroristic threats after investigators said he made threats on a social media site.<br /> <br /> Devon Major was arrested and charged Monday evening.<br /> <br /> No other people were involved in the threat, and no one was injured, according to the Hall County Sheriff's Office.<br /> <br /> The school system and sheriff's department have not released details regarding what the threat entailed, but a Facebook post from Major's public page said, "there so much drama here now lord please save me before o get the chopper out and make Columbine look childish."<br /> <br /> According to Hall County Schools Director of Community Relations Gordon Higgins, the investigation began around 6:00 p.m. when Gainesville Police received a tip that the threat had been posted.<br /> <br /> Police alerted the LCA resource officer and at about 6:20 p.m., identified Major as the student who had allegedly made the threat, according to Higgins.<br /> <br /> A few minutes later, Lt. Earl Roach, Coordinator of School Safety and Emergency Response for the Hall County Schools began working with the sheriff's office to get an arrest warrant for Major.<br /> <br /> Higgins said Major was arrested and taken into custody around 8:30 p.m.<br /> <br /> According to Hall County Sheriff's Deputy Nicole Bailes, Major is being held without bond.<br /> <br /> As far as school, Higgins said Major is suspended, pending a disciplinary tribunal. Major is also prohibited from being on any Hall County Schools campus until the tribunal is complete.<br /> <br /> "The Hall County School District takes all terroristic threats very seriously and will always respond swiftly and efficiently to ensure the safety and security of all children and staff members in our schools," an e-mailed statement from the school system reads.<br /> <br /> A statement from the sheriff's office echoed the school system sentiment.<br /> <br /> "The Hall County Sheriff's Office and the Hall County School System take these matters very serious and will not tolerate threats made at any level."<br /> <br /> Major's Facebook page contains other threats and also includes at least one photo of him smoking what appears to be marijuana. <br /> <br /> As of 3 p.m., Major's Facebook page was disabled.<br /> <br /> Authorities said the investigation is continuing.
