GAINESVILLE - The Georgia State Patrol said a man and woman were killed on Georgia Highway 365 at White Sulphur Road Saturday morning when they were thrown from a motorcycle they were riding.

The accident actually happened around 1 a.m., although the wreckage wasn't spotted by a Hall County Sheriff's Office deputy until daybreak. Sgt Anthony Coleman with the Georgia State Patrol said the area where the accident happened was in a dark part of the median, where passing motorists likely would not have noticed anything.

"And, the grass in the median was a little bit higher, which also sort of kept anyone from seeing it," said Coleman.

Coleman said investigators believe speed was a factor in the crash, and he said alcohol could have contributed, as well. He said investigators do not believe another vehicle was involved.

The man has been identified as Derrick Lee Brinkley, the woman remains unidentified.
