ATLANTA -- The new College Football Hall of Fame has opened in downtown Atlanta, with the hopes of bringing in some 500,000 visitors a year.

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed kicked off Saturday's opening with the blow of a whistle and fans began pouring into the three-story facility located not far from the Georgia Dome and Centennial Olympic Park.

Upon entering, fans encounter a giant wall of 768 helmets - one for every program at every level in the nation. The high-tech hall features an interactive experience that begins when a guest registers for a smart pass and selects a favorite school.
On a normal business day, no more than 800 visitors will be allowed. Advance tickets will be sold to enter during a specific time to help regulate the flow.
