Dahlonega man injured when hit by fleeing suspect

DAHLONEGA - A Florida man faces a long list of charges after fleeing in a stolen truck from Lumpkin County authorities and Georgia State Patrol troopers, hitting a pedestrian in the process.<br /> <br /> The Georgia State Patrol said in a press statement the incident happened Wednesday just after 3 p.m. when a trooper spotted the truck on Ben Higgins Road and pursued it onto Highway 9 in south Lumpkin County. He performed a PIT maneuver and forced the truck into a field, but the suspect continued to drive.<br /> <br /> The suspect - identified as Shannon Jones, age 36, of Ocala, Florida - drove across the field and into a parking lot where he hit a post and sign and the pedestrian, according to the GSP.<br /> <br /> Jones then fled the scene on foot; he was pursued by officers and caught after a brief foot chase.<br /> <br /> The injured pedestrian, 42-year-old Terry Dean Grizzle of Dahlonega was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. The extent of his injuries was unknown.<br /> <br /> The State Patrol said Jones was taken to NGMC for treatment, as well. He faces the following charges, according to authorities: theft by taking, passing in a no passing zone, serious injury by vehicle, obstructing or hindering law enforcement officers, failure to notify owner upon striking fixture, failure to stop at stop sign, hit and run/leaving the scene of an accident, speeding in excess of maximum limits, reckless driving, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, fleeing or attempting to elude police officer and failure to maintain lane. <br /> <br />
