Unpaid GA court fines to be drawn from tax returns

MACON, Ga. (AP) -- A law expected to be implemented in 2015 will allow state and local court systems to recoup unpaid fines from Georgians' state income tax returns.<br /> <br /> Assistant Director for the Georgia Administrative Office of the Courts Mike Cuccaro tells the Telegraph of Macon (http://bit.ly/1rMruas ) similar laws that have been implemented in other states have generated about $2 million in annual collections.<br /> <br /> Clint Mueller of the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia says the collection procedure will only apply to court-related debts that are more than 90 days old and can be matched to the person's Social Security number.<br /> <br /> Mueller says those who owe old court debts need to be notified of the new law in advance and will be given a chance to appeal.
