ELLIJAY, Ga. (AP) Three former high school students in north Georgia have been indicted in connection with a sexual assault reported at an after-prom party in May.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports a grand jury in Gilmer County returned charges of sexual battery and sodomy Monday against Fields Chapman, Andrew Haynes and Avery Johnson. The indictment comes more than a month after the former Calhoun High School students turned themselves in to sheriff's officials May 28 on charges of aggravated sexual battery.
All three men are accused of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman during a cabin party after their high school prom May 10.
Johnson's attorney, Jesse Lee Vaughn, said at least one witness told police the woman was conscious and acting consensually. He said Johnson plans to plead not guilty.
