Bats blank G-Braves, 1-0

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY -- The Louisville Bats scored a run in the bottom of the first inning and held off the Gwinnett Braves for a 1-0 win on Saturday night at Louisville Slugger Field. The Bats took three of four games in the series.<br /> <br /> The lone run, scored against Gwinnett starter Cody Martin, came on a double steal. Jason Bourgeois led off the inning with a walk and moved to third on a single by Ruben Gotay. Then with one out, Gotay broke for second, and as G-Braves catcher Christian Bethancourt threw the ball to get Gotay, Bourgeois scampered home with the only run of the game.<br /> <br /> The G-Braves (34-34) had many opportunities to score, leaving a man stranded on third in the first, second and fifth innings, but could not come up with the big hit off Louisville starter Chien-Ming Wang. Gwinnett left six men on base and went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position despite out hitting the Bats 10-6.<br /> <br /> Martin (L, 4-6) was sharp in 6.0 innings with five hits, one run, three walks and seven strikeouts. Pedro Beato went 1.0 inning with two strikeouts. Ryan Buchter pitched 1.0 scoreless inning with one hit and one strikeout.<br /> <br /> Wang (W, 7-5) worked 6.1 innings with nine hits and two strikeouts. Ryan Dennick (H, 14) and Curtis Partch (H, 2) each pitched scoreless thirds of an inning, and Jumbo Diaz (S, 16) worked a scoreless ninth with one hit and three strikeouts.<br /> <br /> The G-Braves were led at the plate by Tyler Pastornicky (2-for-4), Mark Hamilton (2-for-4), Bethancourt (2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 12 games) and Ozzie Martinez (2-for-3 with a double).<br /> <br /> For the Bats (35-35) Bourgeois, Gotay and Brian Anderson were each 1-for-3. Hernan Iribarren was 1-for-2.<br /> <br /> The Gwinnett Braves continue the road trip with a four-game series at Victory Field against the Indianapolis Indians. Game one of the series is Sunday afternoon at 1:35 PM. Left-hander Daniel Rodriguez (4-7, 3.98) starts for the G-Braves, while left-hander Adam Wilk (4-5, 4.63) counters for the Indians.
