SEC ponders potential move to 'Division IV'

DESTIN, FLORIDA -- Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive says if the Big Five conferences don't get the autonomy they're seeking from the NCAA, they next step would be to move to "Division IV."<br /> <br /> Speaking on the final day of the SEC Meetings, Slive says creating their own division is "not something we want to do."<br /> <br /> But college football's biggest money makers want more flexibility to take better care of players. The SEC, for example, would like to pay full cost of college attendance, provide long-term medical coverage and offer incentives to athletes who return to school and complete degrees.<br /> <br /> Smaller Division 1 schools likely can't afford the changes Big Five conferences are seeking.<br /> <br /> Florida President Bernie Machen says current NCAA rules have the SEC "caught between a rock and a hard play."
