Carpenter received an Outstanding Athletic Achievement Award. A three-year letterman in the mid 1980s, Carpenter starred at Foley Field and Between The Hedges. He was talented enough to have offers to pitch in the Major Leagues and punt in the NFL. A two-time All-American and Golden Spikes nominee, he helped Georgia to its first College World Series in 1987 and tallied 33 Saves in his career. A first round draft pick of St. Louis in 1987, he played eight years in the Major Leagues.
Currently, Carpenter teaches and coaches baseball at Gainesville High School.
