Three of the four teams advanced through to the second round against Region 6-AAAAA teams. Gainesville swept Tucker 7-4 and 12-1, Loganville swept Mays 3-2 and 10-3, and Flowery Branch shocked region champ Dunwoody 6-2 and 8-2 for the sweep. Heritage, Conyers split with Stephenson, dropping the first game 3-0 and rallying to win Game 2 5-3.
Gainesville next will play host to Sequoyah, which swept Rome, in the second round at home. Flowery Branch will hit the road against the Pope-North Paulding winner, which split the first two games. Both series will begin Wednesday.
Region 7-AAA got two series sweeps with Buford hammering North Murray with a pair of 14-0 wins and North Hall sweeping Sonoraville 8-1 and 11-0 at Jody Davis Field.
North Hall will travel to Blessed Trinity on Wednesday while Buford will play host to St. Pius.
West Hall, making its first playoff appearance since 2003, managed a split against Ringgold on the road. The Spartans lost 5-2 in Game 1 but rallied to take Game 2, 4-1. Game 3 is set for 1 p.m. Saturday in Ringgold. Hart County awaits the winner.
White County was swept by defending state champion Cartersville 3-2 and 14-3. Also in Class AAA, Blessed Trinity swept Jackson County 2-1 and 7-5.
The most shocking series of the night was in Jefferson. The Dragons, ranked No. 1 in Class AA coming into the playoffs, was swept by Greater Atlanta Christian at home, losing 3-1 in Game 1 and then 7-6 in eight innings on a walk-off home run by the Spartans.
Also in Class AA, Lovett sent Rabun County will a pair of shutouts, 4-0 and 9-0 in Atlanta. Union County was knocked out by Wesleyan 10-0 and 11-0 in Blairsville.
In Class AAAA, Lumpkin County was swept by Redan 3-2 and 17-7 at home. Marist knocked out Stephens County in two games taking 2-1 and 9-6 victories.
In Class A, Commerce was swept by Gordon Lee 3-2 and 5-0 on the road.
