CORNELIA - Authorities are searching for a man who robbed the United Community Bank branch on the US 441 Bypass Saturday morning, announcing to tellers that he was armed with a grenade.

Cornelia Police Chief Rick Darby said the suspect waited in line inside the bank and demanded money just before 11:30 a.m.

The suspect, described as a white male in his mid 30s to mid 40s, is between 5'7" and 5'10" in height, with a slight to medium build and a goatee. Authorities said he was wearing blue jeans, a black shirt and a hat.

The suspect fled the scene in a white Nissan Pathfinder with a dealership drive-out tag, according to Darby.

The GBI and the FBI are assisting in the investigation.
