Wells Fargo building evacuated

GAINESVILLE - The Wells Fargo building in downtown Gainesville was evacuated about 9:30 Friday morning after sewer gas seeped into the multi-story structure.

"It appears to be a smell from the sewage system inside the building," Gainesville Fire Department spokesman Keith Smith said. "There are no levels of any gases being detected by our monitoring devices. We evacuated the building just for precautionary measures."

Smith said about 200 people had to leave the building.

The building is located at one of the busiest intersections in Gainesville - Jesse Jewell and E.E. Butler parkways.
