Brandon Haley powers to Limited Late Model victory at Hartwell Speedway

HARTWELL - After enduring a long cold winter, both race fans and drivers were eager to get another race season underway at Hartwell Speedway in Hartwell, GA Saturday night, with over 80 competitors on hand.

Taking advantage of a new upper groove in the 3/8 mile clay oval, hometown hero Brandon "Cornbread" Haley rode the high line just inches off the wall, and turned that outside run into a victory in the Limited Late Model feature. David McCoy gave chase, using the low line to move alongside Haley time and again. In the end, McCoy had to settle for second place honors. Keith Freeman finished in third, with John Anderson in fourth and Ken Lamp in fifth.

In other action, David Smith topped the field to score the SECA Crate Late Model victory. Steve "Hot Rod" LaMance finished in second, with David McCoy in third, Adam Smith in fourth and Grant Jordan in fifth.

Paul Byrum powered to the win in the Modified Street feature. Kelly Guy crossed the line in second, with Darrell Ivester in third, Kole Hardy in fourth and Butch Shepherd in fifth.

Rocky Jones took the win in the Stock V8 feature. Terry Brown finished in second.

In Stock Four Cylinder action, Shane Strickland came home with the win, with Cy Strickland in second, Chris Wilson in third, Mason Tucker in fourth and Ryan Boles in fifth.

Adam Partain topped the field for the Young Guns victory. Payton Freeman, Travis Hubbard, Jonathan Cheeseman and Mallarie Burdette rounded out the top five.

Wayne Chapman, Jr. scored the win in the Up Front feature. Cory Price finished in second, with Michael Mosley in third, Andrew Smith in fourth and Justin Sorrow in fifth.

Hartwell Speedway is back in action on Saturday night with a full racing program on tap.
