The Dragons (24-5) led just 9-6 after the first quarter and 26-19 at halftime. But behind a tenacious pressing defense, they outscored the Lions 28-16 in the third quarter to blow the game open. They held Lovett to just nine points in the fourth quarter as they put the game out of reach.
Senior Satchel Turpin scored 24 points to pace Jefferson. Junior Roc Young scored 21 off the bench for the Dragons.
In the first game of the night, the Jefferson girls also beat Lovett 48-38 to advance to the second round.
Both teams will face Manchester in the second round at home. The girls game is tentatively scheduled for Monday night while the boys are scheduled for Tuesday.
