CORNELIA - A tractor-trailer crash on Georgia Highway 365 near Level Grove Road in Cornelia left the driver injured Tuesday.

The crash occurred before 10 a.m. and kept one northbound lane of Highway 365 closed for more than eight hours.

GSP said the truck, from Trantham Services Inc. in Gainesville, was traveling south on Georgia Highway 365 when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the grass median and the southbound lanes, narrowly missing another tractor-trailer.

The truck continued off the highway into a drainage ditch and into a heavily-wooded area between Highway 365 and the Level Grove Road onramp.

The investigating trooper said the driver never applied the truck's brakes before it impacted several trees.

The driver was taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where his condition was not available Tuesday.

GSP will release more details on the wreck Wednesday.

Crews from Seymour's Spill Response Services in Commerce responded to handle the diesel fuel spill on site, while heavy wreckers from C & C Towing of Gainesville and HeavyTow of Buford, assisted by an all-wheel-driver wrecker and equipment from Seymour's, worked to remove the wreckage from the woods.
