Girls basketball: Lakeview holds off Commerce

GAINESVILLE -- Lakeview Academy used a big first quarter and then held on for 56-50 win over Commerce Wednesday in the Region 8-A opener for both teams.<br /> <br /> The Lady Lions (3-1, 1-0 Region 8-A) opened with a 16-9 first quarter and led 27-22 at halftime. The two teams played to a draw in the second half with Lakeview leading 39-33 after the third quarter.<br /> <br /> Hannah Grogan paced Lakeview with 21 points. Schyler Miller added 16 points and Katie Gay 10 for the Lady Lions.<br /> <br /> Commerce (1-4, 0-1) was led a game-high 26 points from Mya Jones. Asia Jones added 10 points for the Lady Tigers.<br /> <br /> Commerce next will play host to Prince Avenue Christian on Saturday while Lakeview Academy will travel to Mt. Paran in Kennesaw on Saturday.
