GAINESVILLE - The staff at Hall County Parks & Leisure Services collected more than 60 coats and jackets during the agency's first Hall County Parks & Leisure Coat and Blanket Drive.
Parks & Leisure staff began collecting the coats and blankets in October, providing citizens with drop-off locations at the North Hall, East Hall and Mulberry Creek community centers. After six weeks of collections, the donations were delivered to Good News at Noon, for distribution to the homeless and others in need in the community.

"It seemed that the timing of our delivery was perfect with the cold weather that rolled in over the weekend," said Brooke Whitmire, special events and program coordinator for Hall County Parks & Leisure Services.

She said several people were already leaving with some of the items the staff dropped off.

"...we discovered that Good News at Noon takes up to 20 children to Hall County's Laurel Park each Saturday and Sunday as part of their children's outreach program," Whitmire said. "Knowing that the coats and blankets we collected will help keep our park patrons warm this winter is a wonderful feeling."
Hall County Parks & Leisure hopes to make the drive an annual thing.
