Piedmont Hotel featured as 2014 Mainstreet Gainesville ornament

GAINESVILLE - The annual Mainstreet Gainesville Christmas Ornament is now available for purchase<br /> <br /> Each year for the past 19 years, the ornament features a local landmark. This year, the historic Piedmont Hotel is featured on the ornament. In 2013, the landmark was the Poultry Park.<br /> <br /> The Piedmont Hotel was built in 1876 and was owned and operated by Lt. General James Longstreet, CSA. It served as Longstreet's political base throughout his career. <br /> <br /> Only a portion of the original structure remains. The north wing serves as a museum dedicated to Longstreet. The Longstreet Society owns and maintains the hotel now.<br /> <br /> The ornament is available at Frames You'Nique and the Communications and Tourism office. In th next week, it will be available at Saul's, Occasions Florist and the Northeast Georgia History Center.<br />
