HELEN - White County authorities say the tractor-trailer truck that wrecked in the northern part of the county Monday afternoon was hauling scrap metal.

The single-vehicle accident involved the tractor-trailer overturning, causing a six-hour closure of Georgia Highway 75 north of Helen.

White County Chief Deputy Bob Ingram said Tuesday the accident, reported around 3:30 p.m. Monday, occurred in a sharp curve one mile north of Andrews Cove.

Ingram said the driver was negotiating a curve when he lost control.

The highway was shut down for more than six hours while authorities investigated the accident and crews cleared up the spilled scrap metal and uprighted the truck and trailer.

White County 9-1-1 dispatch said the road was reopened around 10 p.m. Monday.
