PEACHTREE CITY - A cold and sometimes heavy rain is expected across north Georgia Sunday night and into Monday evening, followed by a surge of arctic air may result in some record lows for this time of year.

"Wednesday morning may see lows in the teens for some areas but at least lower to mid 20s," according to the National Weather Service (NWS). "Wind chills will be in the teens to single digits both Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning."

Highs Tuesday are expected to be in the 30s and temperatures are not expected to return to near normal until next Monday - in the low to mid 60s during the day and low to mid 40s at night.

Rainfall across the region ahead of the blast of cold air is expected to range from around two inches in Atlanta and Gainesville to perhaps 2.5 inches in extreme northeast Georgia, where a "brief, light mix" of wintry precipitation" is possible in the higher elevations.
