JEFFERSON -- Ben Hall worried about the potential for a letdown on Friday.

His Dragons banished those concerns with a flourish, however.

Jefferson scored all of its points in the first half en route to a 38-7 win over Franklin County in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs in Jefferson, storming into the second round of state for a third straight year.

"It was nice, especially after coming off last week's game against Hart County that was just so tough physically," Hall said, referencing last week's Region 8-AAA title-clinching victory in Hartwell. "The kids responded well though. We were a little sloppy on the first drive, but we settled down after that and played really well."

Indeed, the Dragons (11-0) cruised through the second half after taking a commanding 38-0 halftime advantage.

Evan Shirreffs did much of the damage, passing for 205 yards, while Sammy Williams and Colby Wood combined for 94 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

Jefferson finished the game with 342 total yards and was able to rest a number of starters down the stretch, as it started to look toward next week's showdown with Dodge County.

"We got out with no injuries, and that was a big key for us," Hall said. "We're going to raise our game tremendously next week. Dodge County is big, physical and athletic. It's going to be a battle."
The Dragons will play host to the contest.
