Hero of Forsyth Co. Courthouse attack to be recognized by Gwinnett Gladiators

DULUTH - A Forsyth County Sheriff's deputy hailed for preventing a mass-shooting at the Forsyth Co. courthouse this past June will be recognized as the "Hometown Hero" during Saturday's Gladiators home game against the Florida Everblades at 7:05 p.m. <br />

Deputy Daniel Rush was shot in the leg by a heavily armed 48-year-old Cumming man who was attempting to shoot his way into the courthouse on June 6. Rush was on patrol outside of the courthouse when the man pulled up. Rush approached and engaged the shooter, who fired at him through the window of his SUV. A bullet shattered the leg of Rush, a 24-year veteran of the force, breaking it. He underwent surgery to repair the damage and his recovery is ongoing.<br />

The special recognition ceremony will be conducted at the start of the first intermission of Saturday night's game, which is also Military Appreciation Night at The Arena at Gwinnett Center.<br />
The Gladiators are members of the ECHL, the nation's premier "AA" hockey league, and are affiliated with the Arizona Coyotes of the NHL. All home games are played at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth
