TOCCOA -- Buford left no doubt on Friday night.
The Wolves dominated Stephens County 56-0 in Toccoa to claim the Region 8-AAAA title and close out an undefeated regular season.
Buford (10-0, 7-0 Region 8-AAAA) exploded out of the gates to take a 21-0 lead after just three-and-a-half minutes. The Wolves defense ensured that was more than enough, allowing just 46 yards to the Indians (7-3, 5-2).
The outcome gave the Wolves the top seed for next week's state playoffs, where they will play host to the No. 4 seed from Region 7-AAAA. Stephens County, meanwhile, will hit the road as a No. 3 seed.
Buford needed less than 300 total yards to pull away in the contest -- though quarterback Luke Humphrey put up some impressive numbers, finishing 7 of 8 for 116 yards and three scores. Humphrey hit Brett Shepherd for a 19-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring. The quarterback also tossed two second quarter scoring passes to Isaac Nauta (22 yards) and Aaron Auer (18 yards).
Shug Frazier also had a 13-yard fumble return for a score for Buford, while Xavier Gantt returned the opening kickoff of the second half 91 yards for a score.
Stephens County crossed midfield just once during the contest.
