No. 16 Nighthawks advance To PBC semis

DAHLONEGA -- The No. 16 University of North Georgia women's soccer team blanked seventh-seeded Georgia College 5-0 in quarterfinal action of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament on Tuesday afternoon at the UNG Soccer Complex. <br /> <br /> The second-seeded Nighthawks advance to face sixth-seeded Clayton State on Friday, Nov. 7 at 8:00 p.m. at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Ga.<br /> <br /> Mollie Arrendale opened the match's scoring in the 16th minute with an unassisted tally after collecting the ball following a flurry of action in front of the Bobcat goal. The sophomore forward deposited the game-winner in the upper left corner to give North Georgia the lead for good.<br /> <br /> Freshman Brynn Finneran headed home a loose ball following a UNG corner kick for her fifth goal of the season, giving the Nighthawks at 2-0 lead.<br /> <br /> UNG tacked on three goals after intermission as Rachel VanHorn posted her 11th tally of the season with the assist credited to Arrendale. Kassidy Freeman and Jacy Ramey scored less than two minutes apart to cap the scoring.<br /> <br /> Mallory Sayre earned her 15th win of the season in goal as she tallied her eight shutout of 2014. The junior keeper collected all six shots GC was able to put on frame.<br /> <br /> North Georgia outshot the Bobcats 29-11 on the night and took all seven of the contest's corner kicks.<br /> <br /> Clayton State advanced to the semifinals with a 2-1 win at Armstrong State while top-seeded Columbus State blanked USC Aiken, 5-0. Fourth-seeded UNC Pembroke will also make the trip to Evans by virtue of a 2-0 win over Lander in the fourth quarterfinal.<br />
