FLOWERY BRANCH - Hall County Fire Department Station Five is hosting a coat drive for students at Martin Elementary School.

According to Fire Marshal Scott Cagle, Coats For Kids began on October 27 and will run until November 11th.

"Station Five firefighters have been reaching out to Martin Elementary, which is located behind them, asking how they could help," said Cagle. Cagle said the firefighters have adopted Martin Elementary as a community project and assisted with collecting school supplies earlier in the year.

The goal is to fill up an ambulance with coats, hats and gloves for the students.

"We took one of our spare ambulances down there and we hope to fill that up within the next two weeks," said Cagle. "We don't have a specific number [of coats to reach], but we really, literally, want to fill up this ambulance."

Cagle said the ambulance has a large patient compartment, and would take several hundred coats to fill up.

Community members can donate new coats, hats and gloves or gently used (cleaned) coats to the Fire Station at 4187 Falcon Parkway any time from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
