Two area teams move up, several more on cusp of prep football rankings

North Gwinnett and Lanier moved up, while Buford and Jefferson held firm in the latest Georgia Sports Writers Association prep football poll, released Tuesday.<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, Stephens County, West Hall, Rabun County and Union County are each receiving votes in their respective classifications.<br /> <br /> The Bulldogs jumped from 10th to seventh in Class AAAAAA after a 71-24 defeat of Duluth last week. North Gwinnett (6-2, 4-1 Region 7-AAAAAA) will play host to Meadowcreek (1-7, 0-5) this week.<br /> <br /> Lanier moved up from sixth to seventh in Class AAAAA after a 42-35 defeat of Salem. The Longhorns (8-0, 7-0 Region 8-AAAAA) will play host to Winder-Barrow on Friday, knowing that win would clinch the Region 8-AAAAA title.<br /> <br /> Buford held at No. 1 in Class AAAA after a lopsided 58-3 win over North Oconee last week. The Wolves (8-0, 5-0 Region 8-AAAA) will play host to Madison County this week/<br /> <br /> Jefferson also maintained its fourth-place spot in Class AAA after sitting through a bye.
