North Gwinnett climbed back into the Class AAAAAA top 10 and is one of four area teams represented in the latest Georgia Sports Writers Association prep football poll, released Tuesday.

The Bulldogs (5-2, 3-1 Region 7-AAAAAA) sat through a bye last week but moved up thanks to Lowndes and Camden County dropping out of the rankings. North Gwinnett will look to close the regular season strong, beginning with Friday's contest against Duluth (1-6, 0-4). The Bulldogs' remaining three foes have a combined record of 3-18.

Meanwhile, Lanier stayed at No. 7 in Class AAAAA after a 49-20 defeat of Heritage, Conyers on Friday. The Longhorns (7-0, 6-0 Region 8-AAAAA) will play host to Salem (5-2, 5-1) on Friday, knowing a win would put them within one more victory of the 8-AAAAA crown.

Buford held to its top spot in Class AAAA after throttling Monroe Area 51-12 last week. The Wolves (7-0, 4-0 Region 8-AAAA) will travel to face North Oconee (5-2, 4-0) in a key region battle on Friday in Bogart -- in a game broadcast live on WDUN AM 550.

And, in Class AAA, Jefferson also maintained its fourth-place position after a 63-0 defeat of East Jackson last week. The Dragons (8-0, 4-0 Region 8-AAA) will sit through a bye this week before facing Oconee County on Oct. 31.

In Class AA, Rabun County also received a vote after a 45-31 defeat of Union County last week to take control of Region 8-AA.

Georgia Sports Writers Association Prep Football Poll
For Oct. 21
List includes team name, ranking, record, points and last week's ranking

Class AAAAAA
1.
