GAINESVILLE -- Lakeview Academy was already surpassing expectations this season. On Friday night, the Lions shattered those notions, scoring 20 fourth quarter points to overtake Athens Academy 29-28 in Gainesville.
Lakeview scored with 46 seconds remaining to pull ahead for good and cap a wild final 12 minutes that saw the Lions (3-4, 3-2 Region 8-A) enter the period trailing 28-9.
"We got a big punt return from Tae Turner -- he didn't score on it -- but that really got us going," Lakeview coach Matthew Gruhn said. "We had some kids step up and play big tonight."

That certainly included Turner, who scored three touchdowns, as well as quarterback David Abee, who found Thaddeus Webb for the go-ahead touchdown on a 5-yard pass -- a play that helped the Lions get their first-ever win over Athens Academy.

"This is a huge win for our program," Gruhn said. "Hopefully it shows that we belong. We've got three tough games left, but we're getting better each week. Where we are right now from where we started this season is just amazing.

"I'm so proud of these guys."
Lakeview travels to Athens Christian next week.
