WINDER -- In years past Winder-Barrow may have let this game slip away. This is not the Bulldoggs team of years past, however.

After watching Cedar Shoals complete a 60-yard hail Mary as time ran out, Winder fought off a 2-point conversion attempt from the Jaguars to seal a 37-35 victory in Winder.

The win kept the Bulldoggs (4-3, 4-2 Region 8-AAAAA) in the thick of the playoff race in Region 8-AAAAA and, more importantly, showed Winder that it can win ugly.

"The biggest thing is we didn't tuck our tails and let the game get away from us," Bulldoggs coach Heath Webb said. "From people I've talked to around here that game may have gone differently in recent seasons.

"My hats off to Cedar Shoals; they kept coming back and it was a great battle."

Indeed, Winder kept trying to pull away but couldn't -- despite the best efforts of Cece Green, who rushed for 269 yards and three touchdowns. Brandon Hayes also caught 170 yards worth of passes, as the Bulldoggs led throughout.

"We're at the point now where just winning isn't good enough," Webb said. "The guys were disappointed they didn't play better. But they got the win, and that's what counts right now."

Winder-Barrow will travel to play Clarke Central in another key battle next Friday.
