ATLANTA (AP) -- Democrat Michelle Nunn and Republican David Perdue each raised over $4 million in contributions in the last three months, their strongest effort to date as the two battle for Georgia's open Senate seat.

Neither campaign released how much cash each candidate has heading into the final stretch before the Nov. 4 election. Final reports are due Wednesday for the period ending Sept. 30.

A Perdue spokeswoman said his total of about $4.8 million included a $500,000 personal contribution made before the July 22 runoff in which he defeated GOP Rep. Jack Kingston. The Nunn campaign said her total was $4.15 million.

The race has gained national attention as Republicans look to take control of the Senate and can't afford to lose the Georgia seat, held by retiring Sen. Saxby Chambliss.
