Volleyball: Lakeview clinches third straight state berth

The Lakeview Academy volleyball team finished as the No. 4 seed from Area 6-A on Saturday and qualified for the state tournament for the third straight season in the process.<br /> <br /> The Lady Lions defeated Providence Christian (25-23, 28-30, 25-15) to clinch the state berth before falling to Prince Avenue in the second match 25-21, 25-20.<br /> <br /> Peaches Shipley led the Lady Lions on the day with 15 kills, 4 blocks, 3 digs and an ace. Katie Montgomery added 10 blocks and 6 kills. Schyler Miller contributed 34 digs, 2 aces and a kill. Bailey Towles had 16 assists, 12 digs, 7 aces and 3 kills and Rachel Unger had 17 digs, 5 kills and an ace.<br /> <br /> Lakeview went 1-1 during the first round of area tourney play on Thursday, trouncing George Walton 25-14, 25-18 and falling to Hebron Christian 25-15, 25-17 in the second match. <br /> <br /> Katie White notched 9 kills and 19 digs in the first day, while Towles had 16 assists, 6 aces and 9 digs and Delaney Jarrett had 6 assists and 5 aces. Miller had 19 digs and Katie Gay had 4 kills, three aces and 17 digs.<br /> <br /> White was named to the first team All-Area team, while Rachel Unger and Shipley were honorable mention.<br /> <br /> Lakeview will travel to Fellowship Christian (Area 4, No. 1 seed) on Thursday for the first round of state.
