Union County holds off Greene Co., stays unbeaten in 8-AA

GREENSBORO -- Joseph Mancuso threw for three touchdowns and Chase Barnett ran for three scores to lead Union County to a 42-27 win over Greene County in Region 8-AA action Friday night.<br /> <br /> The Panthers (7-0, 3-0 Region 8-AA) set up a virtual winner-take-all showdown with rival Rabun County next week in Blairsville for the region title.<br /> <br /> Greene County (3-4, 2-1) was looking for its second upset victory in as many weeks after taking down defending region champ Washington-Wilkes last week.<br /> <br /> Union County, however, opened the game strong behind Mancuso, who connected twice with Jacob Rogers and once with Robert Prunier and led 28-14 by halftime.<br /> <br /> Greene County would cut the lead 28-27 by the end of the third quarter but Union County pulled away with two Barnett touchdowns in the final 12 minutes to seal the victory.
