BOSTON (AP) -- Secretary of State John Kerry says the country and the world need to confront the threats of climate change while there's still time.

Kerry said climate change is already changing the world in real and significant ways. He says those changes also bring the opportunity of new technology and the potential of millions of new jobs to develop the renewable energy industry.

Kerry cautioned that the window of opportunity to confront the challenge is narrowing.

He says the cost of doing nothing could bring about not only disastrous climate changes but also global conflict.

Kerry made the comments after touring a Boston wind technology testing center with his British counterpart, Philip Hammond.

Hammond echoed Kerry's comments, saying the fight against climate change is also a battle for long-term security.
