7-AAA volleyball: East Hall takes region title

BLUE RIDGE -- An historic season made yet another milestone on Tuesday for the East Hall volleyball team.<br /> <br /> The Lady Vikings notched the Region 7-AAA championship after sweeping two matches at Fannin County High School.<br /> <br /> The Lady Vikings (42-14) opened with a semifinal win over Lumpkin County 25-17, 25-22 and then whipped Fannin County in three straight sets 25-18, 25-16, 26-24 in the championship match.<br /> <br /> East Hall will host its first ever playoff match on Oct. 15 (Wednesday) against the fourth seed from Area 6-AAA.<br /> <br /> Jessica Chmiel led the Lady Vikings' charge with 11 points scored on serve, along with 3 aces, 4 digs, 2 blocks and 5 kills. Meanwhile, Minette Maldonado had 11 points on serve with 4 aces, 9 kills and 23 digs, and Ashleigh Burnett had 7 points on serve with 3 aces, 6 kills, 1 assist and 8 digs.<br /> <br /> Emily Roberts also had 15 kills and a dig, and Allyson Segars produced 9 points on serve with 6 aces, 19 kills and 15 digs. Savannah Lindsey had 15 points scored on serve with 2 aces, 1 kill, 2 assists and 35 digs; Cassida Shockley had 13 points on serve with 4 aces, 5 kills, 7 digs and 42 assists; Holly Poole had 2 points scored on serve with 1 ace, 1 assist and 2 digs, and Summer Lindsey added 2 assists and 11 digs.<br /> <br /> Fannin County will be the No. 2 seed from 7-AAA.
